Stormlight Peonies

The storm came sweeping across the mountains without warning. I barely had time to look out the window when my beloved Gardening Partner who, if truth be told, could care less about anything but his corn, came running into the kitchen. “Get the vases!” he yelled as he grabbed my gardening shears, slid into his gardening Crocs and headed out the door.

Watching in astonishment as he stepped into the peony bed, it took me a minute to realize that he was rescuing Raspberry Sundae before it’s heavy flowers could be smashed by wind and rain onto the stones that border its bed.

I gasped. The pink peony is my passion. Within minutes I had vases, pitchers, canning jars–anything I could grab–lined up on the counter and filled with warm water.

Ten minutes later, his arms full of luscious wet peonies, my Gardening Partner surrounded me with a summer’s worth of blooms.

I am so blessed.
